Maruo is one of Kenji's childhood friends, who stayed friends with him into adulthood. He has a fat appearance and loves eating. In 1997, he was an owner of a Gift Shop called "The Fancy Shop", and he lived with his wife and his son, Hattsuchi. Some time after the Bloody New Year's Eve he became the manager for national artist Haru Namio. He hoped one day he would be able to destroy Friend in Kenji's honor, but his plans to do so were always interrupted.
