Masao Tamura, otherwise known as "Number 13" or simply "#13", was an initial member of Friend's cult, as well as a skilled and cold-blooded assassin. He later rebels against the reincarnated Friend whom he didn't believe in by helping Kanna.
Biography[]
In 1997, Masao was a passionate member of Friend's cult since its early days. He was first shown dancing in his underpants, performing his "morning healing aerobics" while listening to Friend's "healing CD"; his room was also seen with various Friend posters, and he owns Friend t-shirts. Later on, he "purified" Pierre Ichimonji, a leader of a rival cult, once again showing his fanaticism and obsession towards Friend. It is discovered later that Masao was an alumni of Musashiyama High-school, the institution Donkey teached at. He was also shown to be an accomplice in Donkey's murder, while his murderer is the man who delivered the laser gun and Donkey's message to Kenji.
In 2014, Masao was incarcerated in Umihotaru Prison, the same place that held Otcho, under the registration number "13". He acted as a preacher in the prison, but after Otcho escaped, he was released by the Friendship Party and became Friend's top hitman. It is implied that he has been an assassin for the cult ever since he joined. Afterwards, he shot the policeman with a mole at Shinjuku's church, the self-proclaimed "savior of mankind" in the New Book of Prophecy.
In early 2015, Masao was tasked to eliminate the Pope at the Expo according to the prophecies. He managed to conceal himself as a construction worker at the Expo and had taken position on top of one of the expo's monuments, ready to shoot the Pope with a scoped rifle. But as he's about to take the shot, Friend's allegedly dead corpse stood and body blocked for the Pope. Number 13 unwittingly shot Friend instead of the Pope, he later vanishes into thin air before Chouno and Father Luciano could stop him.
In 2018, the new Friend confesses his plans to the world, Masao is revealed to have become disillusioned with the cult and its figure, believing his entire life was according to "Friend's plan". He confessed to Konchi whom he didn't know behind a door, acknowledging that the Friend he used to believe in was no more. Both men then headed towards Tokyo's radio station by helicopter in order to call for an armed uprising, where he met Kanna and the Kenji faction. When the flying saucers were launched, Masao crashed his helicopter into the last flying saucer (as Otcho had shot down two of them) in order to "become one with the cosmos". He briefly survived the crash, claiming that he is Masao and not "Number 13", and that he understands Friend, before losing his vision and passing away.
